James Larue, director of Douglas County Libraries in the US, talked at the eLending and Digital Library seminar in September last year. Here is what he had to say about his visit to Sydney when he returned to the US.

Some of key points of his blog entry: Librarians are good people … who are smart, funny, and deeply passionate about the twin values of our profession: intellectual freedom and privacy / By far the biggest use of our libraries is for circulating materials / Our most powerful recruitment tool …. remains the children’s storytime / libraries have people in them / …

At the seminar, Jamie provided a keynote presentation: “From Gatekeeper to Gardener: Creative Destruction and the Library”. The talk is available on the eLending portal here. You will need to log on to access the talk.
