Life on the Front Desk

Here’s an article on the ABC Open blog from a staff member at Castlemaine Library, written for Library Lovers Day.

It encapsulates quite nicely what we’re about.

As a librarian facing my “twilight” last few weeks in the job before retirement, I have to say this is what I love about our public libraries today. I started as a library assistant at Parramatta in 1972, and will complete my career at a small branch in the Blue Mountains in April 2014. At times it’s been really hard work, but always rewarding and very enriched by colleagues and the public who use our libraries. I will miss the fun and interesting connections with everyone. Our libraries are so socially vital to our communities, and need to evolve to keep up with our contemporary world and to attract and cater for all generations. Ros
